1:1 Eating Disorder Support

You look like you’re coping.

Food is still running the show.

1:1 support for the woman who’s been carrying an eating disorder quietly for years, whether that’s counting calories and restricting, bingeing in secret, or swinging between both, and is tired of losing headspace to it.

You get through the day. You hold down the job, you feed the family, you show up for the people who need you. From the outside, you look completely fine.

Inside, it’s louder than anyone knows. For some of you that’s counting, rules, and a running commentary on every bite. For others it’s eating in secret, promising tomorrow will be different, and the shame that shows up after. For a lot of you it’s both, restricting until you can’t, then bingeing, then restricting again to make up for it.

Maybe you’ve been here before. A GP who couldn’t help. A waiting list too long to bother with. Some therapy, a food plan, a previous go at recovery that half-worked and then quietly slid back. So part of you has decided this is just who you are now.

You’ve told yourself you should be past this by now. That other people have it worse. That you’re not sick enough, or not “bad enough,” to take up someone’s time.

Whatever shape it takes, if food or your body feel like a daily battle, you deserve help. You don’t have to be at rock bottom. And being stuck is not the same as being hopeless.

– The Real Problem

It was never really about food

Here’s what I’ve learned in almost twenty years of this work. The problem is rarely that you don’t know what to eat, or what your body needs. You know, or you used to before the rules took over. The problem is fear, and fear doesn’t live in the part of your brain you can reason with. It lives in your nervous system.

When your body is stuck in a state of threat, being handed a meal plan is like being given directions while your house is on fire. The information isn’t wrong. It just can’t land, whichever direction your eating has gone.

So we start somewhere different. We calm the alarm first. You can’t think your way out of this. You have to calm your way out. When your body begins to feel safe, everything else, the eating, the flexibility, the life, becomes possible in a way willpower never made it.

What you’re really after is to feel steady around food again, and to trust you can change things without everything spinning out of control.

Whatever your eating disorder looks like, I can help

I work with anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, and eating patterns that don’t fit neatly into any one label, sometimes called OSFED. Restriction, bingeing, over-exercise, a body image that won’t settle, or some combination that’s changed over the years.

You don’t need the right label to start. You need one person who’ll listen to what’s actually happening for you.

– The Method

This isn’t a set of rules. It’s a personalised roadmap.

Eating regularly and letting all foods back in is simple to say. Knowing which fear to face first, in what order, at what pace, whether your nervous system is telling you food is dangerous or telling you it’s the enemy after a binge, that’s the part that takes a specialist. The simplicity is what my experience gives you, not a shortcut you could have found for free.

1

You work with me

Not a team, not a rota, not whoever’s free that week. I built the method, I run every session, and I’m the one you message between them.

2

We calm together, in the room

Not as homework you’ll never get round to. In our sessions we settle your nervous system live, so you feel what safe feels like rather than just reading about it.

3

I won’t write you off

I’ve seen people recover who were told they were too long-term, too complicated, too far gone, on either side of this, restriction or bingeing. No one is too far gone. Severe and enduring is a label, not a sentence.

– Your current reality

Where you want to be, and where you’re stuck

Before we talk about how we work together, it helps to name what’s actually going on: what you’re quietly hoping for, what keeps getting in the way, and the truth underneath it all.

You want:

  • To have a happy and healthy relationship with your food and body. Where you can eat all foods without fear and feel safe knowing your weight will not spiral out of control.
  • To have guidance and compassionate support from an expert who really does care. To feel understood and heard.

But here’s where you’re stuck:

  • You know what to eat but you feel overwhelmed and just can’t put it into practice. However hard you try it doesn’t work.
  • You don’t trust what those close to you say. Social media is confusing and you aren’t sure what to believe any more.
  • You don’t want your weight to spiral out of control and to end up hating your body, but you know you need to nourish it.

The Truth:

Most of us struggle with our relationship with food and our bodies at some stage of life.

This could be due to a traumatic event in life or a life change. Or perhaps the world around you tells you that being thin is beautiful and you are shown body perfect images over and over. It can be hard to ignore it.

Maybe social media shows you pictures of perfect diets or you read that eating processed foods is bad. You might try the latest fitness craze, want a healthier body or turn to food for comfort. Sadly, eating disorders are a lot more common that you would think and they can take over your mind and life.

– Hi I’m Priya

I’ve been where you are

I’m a specialist eating disorder dietitian and I’ve spent twenty years doing this one thing: helping women rebuild a calm, trusting relationship with food and their body. Not general nutrition, not a bit of everything, eating disorders.

My passion for this work has come partly from my own struggles. As a teen I struggled with my own body image and eating. Skipping meals, feeling hungry all the time and over-exercise was my coping mechanism.

I believe that you can get to a place where you can appreciate your body and enjoy all foods. A life recovered is a life full of joy and multicolour.

-The Process

How it works

We start with an initial block of four sessions, yours to use over three to six months. Before we meet, you fill in a form so I understand your history, your healthy, and what you’re hoping for. Then:

  1. Four one-to-one sessions with me, online wherever you are in the UK, or in person in Southampton
  2. Direct access to me between sessions through a private app, so you’re not left alone with it for a fortnight at a time
  3. A written plan and resources after our first session, made for you, not pulled off a shelf
  4. Room to carry on in further blocks if and when you want to

Calm
Calming your nervous system so food feels less frightening.

Nourish
Rebuilding steady, sufficient eating, or steady eating without the binge-restrict swing, at a pace you can bear.

Reclaim
Slowly reclaiming the parts of your life that this has been crowding out.

What I won’t promise

I won’t promise a cure, or a date by which you’ll be “better.” Recovery is real, but it isn’t a straight line, whichever direction your eating disorder takes, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling you something.

I won’t put you on a diet, talk to you about weight loss, or reduce you to a number. That is not what this is.

What I will give you is expertise, honesty, and a way of working that meets you exactly where you are. I’ve got things wrong in my own career and learned from every one of them, and that’s part of why I work the way I do now.

FAQ’s

Before you get in touch

Yes. Everyone deserves help at any stage, whether your eating disorder shows up as restriction, bingeing, or both, and however your body looks right now. Getting help earlier is far better for your long-term health, so please don’t wait to get sicker, and please don’t wait until it “looks like” what you think an eating disorder should look like. Some services have weight-based or symptom-based criteria before they can help. As a private practice, I don’t have that same criteria and can work with you at almost any stage. If you’re medically unstable, I’ll need you to be under a medical team first, but I can work alongside that or once you’re more stable.

Yes, completely. Binge eating is an eating disorder in its own right, not a lesser version of one, and it’s not something more willpower or another diet will fix. If you binge, restrict then binge, or eat in secret and then feel it’s controlling you, that’s exactly the kind of thing I work with. Nothing about this page or this process assumes you’re restricting.

Then you’re exactly who I built this for. Trying and getting stuck doesn’t mean you failed. It usually means the approach missed the fear underneath, on either side of the cycle. That’s where we start.

No. There’s practical food work, of course, but a plan on its own has never been the answer, or you’d be free already. We work on the nervous system and the fear alongside the food, whichever direction that fear runs.

Yes. Most of my clients are online, all over the UK, and the work is just as close and just as effective. In person in Southampton is there if you’d prefer it.

Honestly, it varies, and I won’t pretend four will be enough for everyone. We start with four, see how you’re doing, and decide together from there. No pressure to commit to more than the next step.

As a specialist eating disorder dietitian (anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder), I have over 15 years experience helping people recover, which means I know full well how hard it is. For me, a holistic approach is key, not just looking at nutrition in isolation but look at the rest of life too.  If you need help getting your eating back on track I am here to help with education, meal planning, practical help, support and an understanding ear.

You’ve waited long enough to be told you count

You’ve spent long enough being managed by this, or waiting for someone to decide you’re a priority. You don’t need to wait any more, and you don’t need to have it all worked out before you get in touch.

You are not too far gone. Let’s begin
