The secret is in the sausage.

When the PR company for Secret Sausages wanted to send me some of their product to try I was very happy to oblige. Sausages are always a big hit in our house, but we don’t have them too often as they aren’t the healthiest choice. Secret Sausages are different as for a start they contain NO MEAT. Instead they are packed with vegetables and rice, making these a far healthier option and gluten free. The packaging tells me that 3 of count as one of your 5 a day.

We were sent a selection of flavours to try. Myself and the husband loved the Chilli and Coriander flavour, my toddler preferred the Cumberland and the Honey Bee.

I cooked these in a variety of ways. We had them on their own with potatoe wedges and veggies, in a casserole and in a Jambalaya style rice dish. Personally I liked them in the Jambalya best.

These are a much healthier take on sausages being lower in fat, calories and salt. However they do not taste like a normal sausage. As long as you are not expecting a normal sausage then they make a fabulous alternative and I can see them being very popular with children, partially due to the fun packaging. A good way to increase vegetable intake in children.

Disclaimer: I was sent these sausages to review, no payment exchanged hands but I did get to eat the sausages!
